Meet Shal

Shal is one of those people you meet that makes you want to be better, do better, and try harder. Spending 30+ years adventuring in the Alaskan backcountry has left her with more grit than most of us could fathom. She’s spent years mountain biking, bike packing, mountaineering, white water rafting, kayaking, backpacking, and of course miles and miles of backcountry adventure riding. She’s a backcountry enthusiast and thankfully a Wilderness First Responder because of it.

She now lives her life soaking up as much motorbike knowledge, experiences, and community that she can possibly fit into her busy schedule. She’s constantly pushing herself as a rider in order to better herself as a trainer, and takes every class & certification she possibly can in an effort to find new methods, techniques, or challenges for her students. She’s been coaching full-time since 2016, and uniquely teaches both street and off-road riding. It takes skill to jump between pavement and dirt, and she’ll dive into the best techniques in conquering both.

Shal Wilson

When she’s not busy training, Shal is out conquering as much backcountry terrain as she can squeeze in. During a 31,000 mile solo moto trip in 2015, she even set the original record for the most Backcountry Discovery Routes traveled in a 3-month time frame, and was part of the BDR Expedition Team for the filming of the New Mexico BDR.

“Redline your life, by living it to the fullest!” – Shal

More on Shal!

All Trainers

Ben Dragoo has been training alongside his dad, Bill, for the past couple years at D.A.R.T (Dragoo Adventure Rider Training). There are few that could possibly know the curriculum better. He brings with him a level of knowledge, skill, and kindness that’s hard to replicate. You can catch him here at Grit, or training at one of the many expos or tours across the Nation.

Ben Dragoo

Bill Dragoo is the one who created and continues to perfect the curriculum for D.A.R.T (Dragoo Adventure Rider Training). And his son, Ben, has been training along side him for the past several years. These two have the knowledge, patience, technique, and skill to make sure each and every student leaves a better rider.

Chris IS Grit. When curiosity of roadbook navigation hit him, he not only started experimenting with some homemade Tupperware roadbooks, but dove into competing in rallies across the globe. Between he and Phil, the Navigation course they teach is interesting, entertaining, and just a blast.

Chris Braun

Josh is one of those trainers who does it all. Teaching since 2016 for some of the most well known programs, guiding tours to places most of us dream about, and diving deep into the desert racing and rally world whenever his schedule allows. He’s an impressive rider and an even better teacher. Looking for skill, patience, and clear breakdowns of why we ride the way we do? This is your guy.
